The Society of Military Ophthalmologists (also known as SMO)
Purpose
To unite active duty and former or retired ophthalmologists of the Army, Air Force, Navy, and Public Health Service; to further the social and professional contact of military ophthalmologists; and to advance the science and art of ophthalmology in military services.
Vision
Represent and promote military ophthalmology.
Support military ophthalmology initiatives with emphasis on education, research, ocular trauma, refractive surgery, and humanitarian work.
Advocate for military ophthalmologists nationally and internationally among professional organizations, such as the American Academy of Ophthalmology.
Provide a platform for communication, education, and professional opportunities among current and prior military ophthalmologists, as well as professional and governmental organizations.
